Perler bead blank grid size guide

How to choose 16x16, 24x24, 32x32, 48x48, or 64x64 grids for Perler bead patterns.

16x16 is for icons

A 16x16 grid is fast and easy to finish, but it cannot hold much detail. Use it for hearts, letters, tiny animals, badges, and classroom activities.

24x24 and 32x32 are the safest starting points

Most small Perler bead projects fit well at 24x24 or 32x32. These sizes are large enough for recognizable shapes while still keeping the bead count manageable.

48x48 and 64x64 are for display pieces

Large grids preserve more image detail and smoother curves. They also require more sorting, more boards, and more careful ironing. Use them for portraits, wall art, and patterns where small details matter.

Make the grid readable

When a converted pattern looks noisy, reduce the grid size or simplify the source image. A readable bead chart is better than a high-resolution chart that is difficult to build.
