Image to pixel art converter workflow

Tips for converting an image into a clean pixel art grid that is easy to edit and export.

Start with contrast

Pixel art conversion works best when the original image has a clear silhouette. If the result looks muddy, crop closer to the subject or increase contrast before uploading.

Limit the palette

A small palette creates a more intentional pixel art style. It also makes the color count easier to understand if you later adapt the grid to beads, blocks, or stitches.

Clean up by hand

Automatic quantization gives you a first draft. Use the grid editor to remove stray pixels, sharpen eyes or outlines, and make important shapes read clearly at small sizes.

Export a PNG master

Save a PNG once the grid looks right. You can use it as a sprite reference, a craft planning sheet, or a starting point for a material-specific pattern later.
